I loved Clover Days so much!
The story focuses on themes of family and friends, and most of the drama is about character relationships. There’s nothing supernatural or magical which was a relief for me since the past several visual novels I read relied too heavily on supernatural elements.
The art is so so cute and the character designs are great. Aside from Izumi and Tsubame who had somewhat generic designs, the characters are all pretty unique.

Favorite CG:

(There are so many cute ones though so it was really hard to choose)

Favorite OST Track: looking for a Clover Day's

I highly recommend listening to both openings!

Clover Day's OP 1

Clover Day's OP 2

All of the main characters have been friends since childhood, so I thought the depth and closeness of their relationships felt natural and realistic.
My favorite characters were Izumi and Hikaru. I liked Izumi because she was just really funny, and I love tsunderes. Hikaru was the most decisive and realistic character and she was the one pushed along the story in many of the routes.
The best romance was in Anri’s route, because she had the deepest feelings for the protagonist. Her route focused on romance more than any other did, and the forbidden love aspect made their feelings come across as more serious.
My favorite route was Tsubame’s, though Izumi’s was a close second. It was mostly about preparing for the drama club’s play, and had a lot of character drama. Even though it was Tsubame’s route, Hikaru was the character who shined the most, and I liked her a lot better here than in her own route.
The biggest flaw with Clover Days is that there were a couple moments that felt too convenient for resolving conflicts. Most egregiously, there was one scene where the protagonist came out of nowhere to beat up an entire group of gangsters to save one of the girls. I think it was supposed to be a serious moment but I laughed out loud. Moments like that didn’t come up TOO often though, so they were easy to look past.
This review will not be complete without mentioning the absolute cutest angel of all Anzu. Clover Days must be read by moege fans everywhere.

My rating: 10/10
My playtime: 43h 48m

4 minutes of Anzu being cute

Amatsutsumi has some of the best moments I’ve seen in any visual novel, but it also falls flat in several areas.
The premise of the story is that a teenage boy, Makoto, lives in a remote village where everyone has a power called kotodama. Kotodama allows the user to control others with the power of their voice. The story unfolds after Makoto leaves the remote village, and comes to meet the rest of the characters.
Even though Amatsutsumi has plenty of slice of life moments, I wouldn’t consider it a moege due to the serious topics it covers.
The art is great, as always with Purple Software games, and all of the characters (except Kyouko with her stupid haircut) are very cute. Ignoring her over the top proportions that were honestly really distracting (as expected from PurSoft...), I really loved Mana’s design. Her hair bow and shawl thingy are super cute, and I always love white haired characters.

Favorite CG:(the picture is kinda suggestive so i hid it)

Favorite OST track: 合わせ鏡の向こう側 -ほたるのテーマ-

The insert song is super duper good, but beware of spoilers in the video:

Amatsutsumi True Route Insert Song

The best romance was in the true ending of Hotaru’s route, since I thought the tension was really great.
The best route was also the true ending. There was foreshadowing throughout the entire game that led up to some great reveals, and thought-provoking questions and themes.
Amatsutsumi is the third game I’ve played by PurSoft, and just like Chrono Clock and Aoi Tori, it had a unique premise, great hook and a mostly likable cast of characters. However, like the other two, it also had a disappointing ending. Every PurSoft game I’ve played has had a deus ex machina ending, or as I like to call them, magical shenanigans so everyone can live happily ever after. Hotaru’s route was amazing leading up to the ending, which left something to be desired. In order to have a happy ending, the writer just started making up new magical powers that were not at all in line with what kotodama was able to do before. The magical shenanigans were also present in Kyouko’s route(which I skipped large parts of because it was unbearably boring), and a little bit in Mana’s route. Despite all that, the story was great for the most part.
My favorite character is a certain sickly girl who was introduced very late into the story, and did NOT have enough time to shine. Neither ending in Hotaru’s route gave the girl in question the ending she deserved, and it was a waste of a great character. Even adding 2 more hours of content exploring her character would have made this visual novel a 9/10 or higher for me.
As for the rest of the characters, they were pretty good.
I loved Hotaru and her witty personality, and seeing Mana develop as a character was really great.
Kokoro is stupid and I love her. Mana and Kokoro had a great relationship build over time and it was heartwarming to see them argue about manga.
Kyouko was… there.
Amatsutsumi has some incredible storylines and such a unique premise that make it well worth the read, despite its weaker moments.

Sanoba Witch seems like a very typical galge; the story basically starts with an average guy somehow being thrown into some after school club full of beautiful girls. It’s the type of thing that gets parodied by games like DDLC (and that one gravity falls episode). Maybe I’m secretly a 30 year old man inside, but I loved it. Despite the typical premise, the entire story is just done so well. Aside from the standard romance visual novel aspects, there’s also a magical girl plot line that’s done really well.
The art is really clean, and all of the characters are adorable pretty much 100% of the time.

Favorite CG:

Favorite OST track: Ki no au Nakama-tachi
The entire sountrack is so good It was hard to pick just one. This one’s my fav though, since it perfectly represents the feeling of having a chill day with your friends at school in music form.
A close second is Omoide no First Date.

The OP is super catchy as well

Sanoba Witch OP
Warning: the video has some fanservice

My favorite characters were Nene and Meguru. Meguru was just super duper cute and sassy, and she was always fun to have on screen. I don’t even know how to describe what makes Nene such a good character, so you’ll just have to read it and find out yourself.
Touko was a character I didn’t initially care about, but she grew on me.
Tsumugi was actually a really interesting character at first, but she ended up being kinda boring in my opinion.
The side characters are all really great as well, especially the one lesbian student council girl whose name I forgot.
Every route except Wakana’s and Meguru’s were really interesting, and Nene’s was the best by far (read it and you will understand). The magical girl aspect of the story is utilized pretty well throughout, though I thought it could have been done better in Tsumugi’s route (specifically, what she wished for was not important enough in my opinion).
Overall, I highly recommend Sanoba Witch for its characters, atmosphere, and Nene’s route (better than Steins Gate).

I dont think I can even write a proper review for Subahibi so this is gonna be pretty nonsensical.

Subahibi is just so so so good! It’s unlike anything else I’ve ever seen, and I highly recommend it. It’s a really long game, but I never once felt bored reading it. The dialogue and banter between characters (especially Yuki and Tomosane) is great, and I love just about every character that got a decent amount of screentime.
Kimika is so smart and so stupid at the same time. She was funny and silly every time she was on screen, and her voice actress was so great.
The best Kimika voice lines:
Yuki was my favorite character overall, and I already wrote an entire paragraph about why I love her so much in my Yuki shrine. Click here if you're interested.
Zakuro was also a very well written and lovable character. She reminds me a lot of myself in the past
SPOILERS: Seeing her finally be brave and stand up for Kimika in LGI was the best scene in the entire game. I’m not even a fan of yuri but Zakuro x Kimika was the best romance in the entire game.
Hasaki is cute too.
I really don’t like Takuji, but I don’t think he’s necessarily supposed to be likable. He’s probably the best written character in the whole game blah blah peak fiction, but I still like my kawaii moe anime girls better.

Favorite CG:
IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO PICK JUST ONE! I love just about every CG in the game, but here are some of my top picks:

Favorite OST track:
IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO PICK JUST ONE! THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK (apart from the weird tracks that are just water dripping noises) IS SO GOOD! Here are my top 5:
Honorable Mentions: Living Game, Kawaranai kara Koso (this is the one playing in the background right now), The Dreamy Fish (Technically composed by Erik Satie but it’s in the Subahibi soundtrack so it counts)

Listen to the opening or never know joy:

Kuuki Rikigaku Shoujo to Shounen no Uta (Subarashiki Hibi OP)

Listen to the Looking Glass Insects ending or never know joy:

The Final Smile (Subarashiki Hibi ED)

I think this song is from some Subahibi related tribute album (?) I’m not really sure but it’s also good:

a wonderful days rebirth

About the dark content/SA scenes (SPOILERS): I’ve heard people say that they’re completely necessary for the plot and not sexualized at all, and I disagree. I think there are some scenes that are actually plot relevant and handled well, those being the scene with Takuji and the bullies in IMOI, and the scene with Zakuro in LGI that drove her to suicide. These scenes add to/ explain the characters’ inner struggles, and I believe they were portrayed in a sympathetic light. However, there were way too many unnecessary SA scenes, especially in IMOI, that were too gratuitous and didn’t add anything to the plot apart from shock value and showing the depravity going on in the cult. The one with the teacher was probably the worst, but the one very long scene that happened in the ark to Kagami was just too much. It had SIX CGs and was really just painful to watch (I had to skip it). That being said, what happened to Zakuro was incredibly heartbreaking, and it genuinely made me cry. It showed the effects SA has on a person, and was necessary for the story. Overall, I think Subahibi’s handling of SA is very inconsistent, and it’s not as perfect as people make it out to be.

Putting those serious topics aside, I love Subahibi so much. It’s really something special, and if you can stomach the disturbing content, I highly recommend it.

My Rating: 10/10
My playtime: 70h

Screenshots I like very much:

Since I played DDLC so long ago, this is more of just my memories and thoughts about it, rather than a review.

I played when I was in 5th grade (literally 10 years old), and it scared me so bad. I really loved it though, and so did my friend group at the time. I kid you not, we would all run around pretending to be DDLC characters during recess. In case you were wondering, I was Sayori.
When I went to middle school the next year, I found some friends with similar interests, and we thought it would be fun to join a literature club. We found out there wasn't a literature club, so we decided to start one ourselves. The school librarian was so excited when we asked her to be our club advisor. I feel kind of bad for her in retrospect, since she was some nice old lady who thought the youth was still interested in literature, when in reality we were just influenced by our beloved Doki Doki Literature Club. I have one memory where she was trying to get us to read some old classics like Little Women or something, but we were only interested in Black Butler and Assassination Classroom.

Favorite CG:

I liked Sayori a lot when I was younger, but I think Natsuki would be my favorite if I replayed it now.
I can't speak to the quality of the game or the writing since it's been so long, but DDLC still holds a special place in my heart.
Fun fact: I still know every lyric to Just Monika

I was actually really excited to play Saku Saku. The art is amazing, and it seemed like my kind of thing. It started out… okay I guess? I liked the characters (especially Ann and Konami), but they weren’t REALLY anything special. The main reason I stopped reading it though was that it’s just BORING AS HELL. I read 11 hours of literally nothing. It was all slice of life, which is my favorite thing ever, but it wasn’t fun or interesting at all. I was just yawning through the whole thing. I’ll probably read at least one or two routes eventually but it might be a while before I get around to that.
